Twitter - Pull it Together!

By now, every regular Twitter user is aware that the microblogging service is constantly down. Twitter actually acknowledged that they will be fighting to remain operational as they reengineer their systems. All the major blogs have responded with exhaustive posts that criticize Twitter’s failed infrastructure and platform choice (Ruby on Rails) and discuss rumors surrounding fired Chief Architect Blaine Cook. Having discussed this to no end, the mainstream blogs made a u-turn and began talking about how great Twitter’s newfound communication with their users has become and how they are doing a great job responding to criticism. Meanwhile, Twitter still doesn’t work.
Well, here is an idea Twitter: Stop accepting user registrations! Twitter’s architecture is flawed in ways we’re unsure about, but what we do know is that Twitter simply can’t handle its current group of active users. So, how about we stop adding to the problem? This isn’t uncommon by any means. In fact, in the early days of del.icio.us, registrations were put on hold when they started to overwhelm the system. That way, engineers could spend time ramping up their system instead of temporarily fixing things with a band-aid approach and bringing broken systems back online only to crash yet again.
So with that I say to Twitter, For Frak’s Sake!
